Okkar heimur

The charity Okkar heimur approached Kolibri for a new website, aiming to raise greater awareness of their work and better reach young people, relatives, and professionals.

The new Okkar heimur website launched alongside the organization’s conference on September 18, 2025.

The project

Information and support that make all the difference

Okkar heimur works to support children of parents with mental health challenges, providing families with information and guidance while also collaborating closely with professionals. Because of the nature of its work, Okkar heimur must communicate effectively with different audiences through accessible educational content.

The new website was designed with this challenge in mind, addressing the varied needs of each audience through clear messaging and tailored information. Special emphasis was placed on presenting Okkar heimur’s family workshops and support groups.

Digital branding

Kolibri developed a new digital brand identity for Okkar heimur. We wanted the visual identity to feel friendly and accessible — soft in tone, yet clearly structured. The color palette is diverse without feeling chaotic, and the typefaces were carefully chosen for readability and accessibility.

Because the topic can be sensitive, we placed emphasis on creating a website with a gentle and understated overall appearance.

Target groups and information

Okkar heimur’s educational and support content is designed for five key audiences — younger children, teenagers, parents, other relatives, and professionals.

The website features concise, focused articles tailored to each of these groups, offering guidance and support during challenging times.

Illustrations

Beautiful illustrations by Sara Rós Guðmundsdóttir, a volunteer with the organization, play a central role in Okkar heimur’s visual identity. The drawings refer to childhood through vibrant colors and soft, organic lines. Pages aimed at children feature more illustrations of objects and toys, while abstract shapes take the lead on pages intended for older audiences.
