The Icelandic Language Bank is a certified CLARIN servicecenter, supporting researchers in the humanities, social sciences, and language technology who rely on linguistic resources, as well as industry partners developing innovative language technology solutions.
The goal was to establish a trustworthy and professional presence that truly reflects the value and quality of the services the Language Bank provides.
At its core, the visual identity of Málbankinn is about a dialogue between tradition and modernity – and that dialogue is most clearly expressed in the logo. There, an open book meets a semicolon, which closes the form and refers both to language and programming. On closer inspection, the form also reveals the initials M and B for Málbankinn.
The choice of colors and typography is inspired by the design standards of the Árni Magnússon Institute, while still carrying its own distinct character. The color palette features soft yet distinctive tones with strong contrast, evoking a sense of heritage and timelessness. The typefaces echo classical fonts found in books and scholarly works.
Together, these elements create a solid and classical visual identity, subtly enriched with a modern touch.
